The International Year of Planet Earth (IYPA) in South Africa - an African idea - was co-ordinated by the IYPE Out of Africa - the South African National Committee for the IYPE, chaired by Prof. Maarten de Wit, Inkaba's SA Representative.

Said Minister of Science and Technology, Dr Mosibudi Mangena in his message from South Africa for IYPE: "Only through science, robust science, the minehead of knowledge, can we appreciate where we came from, where we are and where we are heading."  These words literally depicts Inkaba's goals and objectives.

"And, this is Africa's great opportunity to place her unmatched heritage on the world map.  This is our greatest opportunity ever to breathe life into that simple creed of freedom, 'by the people, for the people.  But, let us expand on the creed: 'by the people, for the people and all other species of our time and tomorrow's time"  concluded Minister Mangena.
